How a Girl From Louisiana Became an Alabama Fan
In this episode, I'm finally telling the whole story, from growing up in a tiny Louisiana town without a football team to learning the game from Jerry, attending our first Alabama game together, earning two degrees from the University of Alabama, and eventually making Alabama home.
Episode 12: How a Girl From Louisiana Became an Alabama Fan
I'm originally from Louisiana, so people are always surprised when they find out I'm a die-hard Alabama football fan. In this episode, I'm sharing how Jerry introduced me to the Crimson Tide, how Alabama football became part of our lives through years of Navy moves and deployments, and why I eventually earned two degrees from the University of Alabama. What started as my husband's favorite team became a huge part of my own story. Roll Tide!
Episode 11: My Breast Cancer Story: The Appointment I Put Off For 7 Years
I put off getting my first mammogram for seven years because I felt fine and breast cancer didn't run in my family. Then, at 47, the appointment I kept avoiding found my cancer.
Episode 10: Interested or Committed? There's a Difference.
Are you actually committed to the thing you keep saying you want, or do you just like the idea of having it? Let's talk about what commitment really looks like, why it isn't always exciting, and how taking action gives you information you can't get by sitting around thinking about it.
Episode 9: Advice I'd Give You If I Wasn't Afraid of Hurting Your Feelings
What would I tell you if I wasn't worried about hurting your feelings? Stop waiting for your life to change itself. In Episode 9, I'm talking about action, self-trust, perfectionism, micro-quits, comparison, purpose, and making the damn decision.
Episode 8: Life Lately: My First SALTY Report
A life-lately catch-up on The Salty Spray, business growth, podcasting, a difficult military case, faith, new opportunities, and what I'm saying yes and no to at 52.
Episode 7: Nobody Is Thinking About You That Much
We think people are paying way more attention to us than they actually are. I'm talking about the spotlight effect, fear of judgment, and how an imaginary audience can keep us from doing the things we actually want to do.
Episode 6: Are You Rushing Through Your Own Life?
What if the season you're trying so hard to get through is actually part of the life you're going to miss someday? I'm talking about ambition, getting older, and learning not to miss the life happening while you're busy chasing what's next.
Episode 5: From 26 Years In The Navy To Building A Mobile Spray Tan Business (The Salty Spray Story)
How do you go from 26 years in the Navy to building a mobile spray tanning business? Holly gets asked that question all the time, and the answer involves a lot more twists and fresh starts than you might expect. In this episode, she shares the unexpected story behind The Salty Spray; from leaving the military and bouncing through jobs, business ideas, and career pivots to eventually building something completely her own. She also opens up about nearly quitting when the business wasn’t growing fast enough, the turning point that changed everything, and why the chapters that felt like failures were just preparing her for what came next. If you’re in a season that doesn’t make sense yet, this episode might change the way you see it.
Episode 4: Who Are You When The Title Is Gone?
What happens when the role that defined you for years suddenly disappears? For 26 years, Holly knew exactly who she was. Then she left the Navy and found herself asking a question she never expected: Who am I without the title? In this episode, Holly opens up about the identity crisis that followed, the humbling transition into civilian life, and what it took to rediscover herself outside the uniform. If you’ve ever tied your identity to your career, accomplishments, a relationship, or a role you thought would always be there, this episode will make you think differently about who you are underneath it all.
Episode 3: What If You Choose Wrong? The Fear Of Starting Over
What if you make the big decision and regret it? In this episode, I share some of the biggest decisions of my life—from leaving home at 18 to join the Navy to eventually walking away from a 26-year career—and what I've learned about the fear of choosing wrong, starting over, and trusting yourself when you're standing at a crossroads.
Episode 2: How To Stop Comparing Yourself To Others
Comparison can steal your peace in seconds. In this episode, I talk about why comparison isn't always the problem, what the Bible says about it, and why measuring your insides against someone else's outsides is a rigged game. I also share a slow season in my own business and why being behind someone else doesn't mean you're failing.
Episode 1: It's Okay To Not Have It Figured Out (Starting Over At Any Age)
You don't have to have it figured out to start. In this first episode, I share my winding path from 26 years in the Navy to Lululemon, a PhD program, Amazon, and eventually building The Salty Spray. If you've ever felt behind, stuck, or like everyone else got a manual you never received, this episode is your permission slip to stop waiting until you feel ready.
I'm Holly Taylor
Before That Salty Girl, I served in the Navy and later worked in corporate America before settling into Birmingham and starting The Salty Spray, a mobile spray tan business. Now, as a podcaster, you may even hear stories about my days flying with the Blue Angels and graduating from a small Louisiana school with a class of 18. As you can see, I live life to the fullest, stretch myself to learn everything I can, and prioritize people above all else regardless of what is going on around me.
All of my experiences lead me to the word salty.
Salty (adj.): seasoned by everything you've been through.
I learned it’s okay to keep going despite not knowing what is next. If you’re at a crossroads or wondering where to start, this is the place you belong.
